A wild car chase in Kumasi yesterday resulted in a trivial accident which eventually led to the arrest of another prime suspect in the death of Constable Frank William Blankson, 23.
The name of the suspect believed to be about 25 years old, was given as 'Iron Boy' by a police source who divulged the information to DAILY GUIDE on anonymity.
In a typical Hollywood fashion. Iron Boy drove his unlicensed Toyota Corolla vehicle at top speed from Alabar, as residents of the densely populated Muslim community raced after him on motorbikes around 2:30 pm on Thursday.
Luck finally eluded Iron Boy, who is rumoured to be a hardened criminal, when he slammed his car into that of another person at Ashanti Newtown (Ash Town) around St. Louis Training College.
With Iron Boy firmly in their grips, the Alabar residents who believe the suspect had a hand in the cop's death, instantly called the Suame Police and handed the suspect to them. The Suame Police then took him to the Central Police Station at Adum.
Iron Boy, a notorious hoodlum at Alabar, was said to be at the scene on Monday around 12:30 am when the late police officer was reportedly shot to death by a group of armed robbers at Danyame.
Fourteen suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the late cop's murder.
After being fired up by the Inspector-General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, to bring the cop's murderers to book, the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Tuesday grabbed 19-year-old Hafix Malik dressed like a nursing mother to outwit police.
At the time of filing this report around 5:00pm, the Buffalo Unit of the Central Police Station was interrogating Iron Boy.
The police service suffered a major blow when Constable Frank William Blankson of the Striking Force Unit was shot to death by a group of hoodlums who later fled the scene on about eight motorbikes.
The late cop was on patrol duties in the serene neighbourhood of Danyame, a suburb of Kumasi, when he bumped into the criminals and his attempt to confront them resulted in a shoot-out.
Before being killed, Constable Blankson managed to shoot one of the suspects to death in the rib.
Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE gathered that all apprehended suspects might be arraigned today Friday, September 24, as police are almost through with interrogations of the suspects.
