The Weta School Implementation Committee has appealed to the education authorities in the Ketu North District and the Volta Regional Education Directorate to expedite action on the use of a two-storey school block completed more than a year ago. The committee said in spite of the fact that many schools were in need of facilities the two-storey block has not been used for the past year although it has been completed and furnished. The non-use of the building has led to an appeal by students in the area to the government to fast-track the inauguration of the building. The construction of the Weta Senior High Technical School at Adzotsi, which cost GH¢360, 000, began in July 2008 after an appeal by the chiefs of the area to then President J. A Kufuor for the facility. But since its completion about a year ago, the building has not been inaugurated due to what community members say is the inaction of educational authorities and the district assembly, as students commute to and from other districts to be educated. The school is to serve Weta, Exi, Adzotsi, Dekpor, Devego, Gbegbekope and Agorvie communities which do not have a senior high school. The Secretary to the School Implementation Committee of the Traditional area, Mr Moses Kpornu, when contacted said in a reply to one of their letters to the Volta Region Directorate of Education, they were made to under-stand that the school was a private one and the committee needed to register with the Registrar General's Department, engage its own staff, admit students and invite the education authorities to come and inspect. The building of the school generated some debate among community members, when the Chiefs in the area, led by the Regent Togbega Ashiakpor, called on the former President J. A. Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, in October, 2004, to appeal for a school for the people of Weta Traditional Area. Some people perceived the action of the chiefs as patronising. The former President having listened to their plea, directed the construction of the school from the GETFund. Two chiefs, Togbe Weshigbe II and Togbe Mlapa III, released 45.2 acres for the construction of the school and in July 2008, the sad was cut for the commencement of the project. Source: Daily Graphic
