Breast Care International, (BCI), and Peace and Love Hospitals (PHLs.) on Mothers Day screened thousands of women for breast cancer.
The event has now become an annual ritual to prevent or detect breast cancer among women in the country.
The just-ended event, the seventh in succession, took a sudden turn when a young woman with a life-threatening breast condition had to be saved instantly at a makeshift surgical theatre at premises of the radio station, earning instant applause from the teeming crowd for the medical team, under the able leadership of Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of BCI, and CEO, Peace and Love Hospitals, PLHs.
This year’s collaborative event was at the instance of BCI and PLH, and supported by the C.E.O of Despite Group of Companies, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, Dr. Ofori Sarpong, C.E.O., Special Ice Mineral Water, and Management of Hello FM, led by Mr. Odei Asare.
The event, was preceded with soul-inspiring songs by renowned local gospel artistes to celebrate the thousands of mothers present, followed by the educational component of the program, which included a lecture by Dr. Wiafe Addai on the signs, symptoms, risk factors,methods of investigation and finally, the available treatment options for breast cancer.
The medical team demonstrated to the women, the proper ways of performing breast self-examination.
Dr. Wiafe Addai stressed that early detection was key to treatment and cure, and warned “delay in diagnosis and subsequent treatment could have catastrophic results”.
Some breast cancer survivors also shared their experiences on breast cancer,and urged allwomen to be conscious of breast cancer and not be scared.
They advised the women to inform theirspouses when they find any abnormalities with their breast and encouraged men to be supportive of women with the condition.
Dr. Pedita Adu Kyei Baffour, an Optometrist at the Peace And Love Hospital, educated andscreened the throng for eye diseases.
