The Second Deputy National Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in charge of operations, Alhaji Tapsoba Alhassan has warned that his outfit will not take kindly to any NYEP coordinator who indulges in partisan discrimination of the youth who approach them for employment.
He said the NYEP is not for any political party but for the youth of the country, therefore, there is no need to discriminate against the youth on political grounds.
"Don't ask any youth who may approach you for job about his or her political affiliation because the NYEP is for the youth of Ghana", he said, adding that any coordinator caught indulging in that practice will be sacked.
Alhaji Alhassan gave the warning when he addressed a one-day training programme for the 34 NYEP coordinators in the Central Region on Thursday.
According to him, all coordinators should employ diplomacy in dealing with the numerous people who flock to the place to seek employment, adding that the programme is not only to provide jobs, but to instill discipline in the youth.
He said, very soon numbering of houses will begin in the Central Region and urged the youth to brace themselves for the exercise.
Alhaji Alhassan commended the rLG Communications and Asuntaba Cottage Industry for providing about 15,000 jobs for the youth, under the NYEP, across the country.
He praised the media in Central, Ashanti and Eastern Regions for their accurate reportage on the NYEP and urged them to sustain the practice.
He also commended NYEP coordinators in the Central Region for the show of discipline with no report of any abuse or malfeasance so far.
The Central Regional Manager, Baba Seidu, called for cooperation from all the coordinators to help sustain the various modules under the programme to give employable skills to the youth.
Nana Oseibi, Central Regional NYEP Coordinator, said the programme was to equip the coordinators with the necessary training and information to assist them in their daily dealings.
