The Information Minister John Akologo Tia is alleging that the dismissed boss of the Information Services Department (ISD) Nii Agiri-Barnor is behind the workers levelling false allegations against him.
Some unnamed staff of the ISD alleged in a petition that the minister and his team in their quest to render the ISD irrelevant have appointed a retired staff to head the department in place of the dismissed boss, Nii Agiri-Barnor.
But in an interview with Joy News, Information Minister John Tia said he was convinced Mr Agiri-Barnor is the mastermind of the allegations of underhand dealings being orchestrated against him.
“This petition is the work of Agiri-Barnor himself,” he alleged.
Mr Tia has rejected the claims and challenged his accusers to substantiate their accusations.
He has also discredited the accusers’ group. “There is nothing like the Concerned Staff [of the ISD],” he maintained.
He further dared them to identify themselves if they truly love Ghana and want the right thing done for a better Ghana.
“If they are really concerned citizens, I mean staff members, I don’t know what prevents them from disclosing their identity, and saying that look, for the sake of mother Ghana, for the sake of our people, we are worried about what is happening in the information [ISD].”
When his attention was drawn to the fact that public servants are barred from engaging with the media and hence the decision of the 'concerned staff' to go to the media under cover to avoid victimization, the Minister replied: “They should come to me as the minister responsible for the sector, it is not for them to send it to the media," explaining that if they had done that, then they could go out if he failed to act.
