The revenue collection drive by the Kumasi Sector Command of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) has been boosted by the bulk-lifting of oil from petroleum reserves in Kumasi.
The Kumasi depot of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Limited is currently serving as loading point for about seven regions, from Nkawkaw through to the Northern region.
Over 200 fuel tankers are currently in queue to take delivery of petroleum products.
In 2006, CEPS in Kumasi exceeded revenue targets by over 60 percent when the Tema Oil Refinery was shut for maintenance works. Tax proceeds on the commodity will most likely push up targets for this year.
Meanwhile, the BOST is working deep into the night in efforts to clear the backlog of fuel tankers which have had challenges in accessing the commodity.
The Ghana Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union is hopeful the situation will soon ease for prompt supply. Union Secretary, Kwame Acheampong dismissed fears there could be a shortfall in supply of petrol and diesel.
He tells Luv Fm there is enough fuel stock to meet demands on the market.
The union however wants the management of BOST to provide parking space for the trucks to protect life and property at the loading point.
