Minister of Transport, Mike Hammah has said that transportation of petroleum products by the Volta Lake Transport Company will resume by the end of the month.
The company, which was established to use the Volta Lake to transport goods to the north is currently faced with serious financial challenges after its contract to ferry petroleum products was stopped in 2009.
Officials say having lost nearly 70 percent of their revenue stream, it has become almost impossible for them to meet their financial obligations with the very survival of the company under threat.
The Transport Minister however told Joy Business a contingency plan is in place to assist the company.
He said the government “has directed that the BOST (Bulk Oil Storage and Transport) should transport their petroleum products to the north via the Volta Lake.”
