The Eastern Regional town of Akropong is said to be calm now, following violent clashes over the installation of a queen mother for the town yesterday.
Two factions in a protracted chieftaincy battle are said to be both claiming the right to install a queen mother to initiate the celebration of this year’s Odwira festival celebrated by the people of the area.
The conflict turned bloody yesterday when the warring factions clashed at the palace of the Akropongmanhene with some six people seriously injured.
Akropong Divisional Commander of police, Chief Superintendent Ernest Owusu will neither confirm nor deny any casualty but says the area is calm enough for the celebration of the festival which starts today.
He said he had had assurances from the factions that they will not do anything to undermine the peace.
