Youth of Kyebi in the Eastern Region are on a crusade to seize equipment of all illegal miners in the Akyem Abuakwa district.
So far the concerned youth have seized about 100 pumping machines and 15 excavators.
The youth say their action is to curb all mining activities in the area in order to protect the water bodies.
Spokesperson Samuel Ofosu Antwi told Joy News no miner will be allowed to operate in the area.
“From today going we are going to stop everybody, we don’t care [whether] you have license or [not]. We have to protect our land.”
The Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea has condemned the action of the youth.
But he said their concerns should be addressed.
