Fifteen out of the 21 invited Black Stars players trained for the first time Tuesday morning at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra ahead of Sunday’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan.
The list includes two locally-based goalkeepers, Isaac Amoako and Daniel Agyei. The defenders are John Painstil, John Mensah, Seth Owusu, Isaac Vorsah, Samuel Inkoom, midfielders; Kwadwo Asamoah, E. Agyeman-Badu, Bernard Yaw Kumordzi, and strikers; Jordan Ayew, Prince Tagoe, Emmanuel Clottey.
Kevin Prince Boateng has been ruled out of the tie, replaced by Sampson Cudjoe of AshantiGold.
The former Ghana Under-23 player told Joy Sports he is capable of stepping in for the favoured AC Milan midfielder.
He is particularly happy that the call-up will provide him with an opportunity gain some experience because “you can’t buy experience in the market.”
Sampson Cudjoe said he is not intimidated by the calibre of players he will be playing with, saying the established players started like him.
Meanwhile, Andre Ayew, Lee Addy, Richard Kingson, Hans Adu-Sarpei and Jonathan Mensah are expected to join their team mates for this evening’s training session.
Striker Asamoah Gyan also trained under caretaker coach Akwesi Appiah. The Sunderland player comes into this Sunday’s match after scoring two goals in five competitive matches for his club.
Off the pitch, Asamoah Gyan has also become popular because of hiplife musician, Castro’s hit single “African Girls”. The 24-year-old told Joy Sports he’s pleasantly surprised by the impact the song has made.
