Ghana’s Lightweight boxer, Benjamin Lamptey, enhanced the country’s chances of a medal at the ongoing 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, with a place at the next round.
Lamptey defeated Ioane Kaisa of Antigua 17-6 in their Lightweight (60 kg) contest held at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday.
It was the second victory for the Black Bombers after Frederic Lawson eased past Ganiyu Muideen of Nigeria 8-5 in the Light welterweight category last Tuesday.
Middleweight Habib Ahmed, however, lost 1-5 to Welshman Keiran Harding in the initial stages.
Information gathered by GNA Sports from the Commonwealth Games Secretariat indicates that Ghana’s Azumah Mohammed will face Mothibi Moabi of Botswana later on Wednesday in the Welterweight (69 kg) category.
On Thursday, October 7, Bombers captain Manyo Plange will be in action against Mayengbam Suranjoy of India in the Flyweight (52 kg) division whilst Duke Micah slugs it against South African Pilane Lebogang in the Light flyweight (46-49 kg) category.
In the Light heavyweight division, Ahmed Saraku will engage Aska Yakita of Antigua and Barbuda whilst Frederic Lawson again faces Ulysse Yves of Canada in another Light welterweight division.
On Friday, October 8, Lamptey will face Josh Taylor of Scotland at the next round of the Lightweight division.
