The Black Stars will receive their outstanding bonuses for last month’s 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Swaziland. This follows earlier media reports of a player boycott of this weekend’s African Cup qualifier against Sudan.
The Sports Ministry has also assured the Stars of the full payment of their bonuses for Sunday’s game against Sudan.
Each player is still owed 95,000 dollars from the South Africa 2010 World Cup in bonuses and appearance fees. This includes a $20,000 pledge made by President John Mills upon the team’s arrival from South Africa.
Deputy Sports Minister Nii Nortey Dua assured that the remainder of the monies would be paid to the players next week.
The Ghana-Sudan qualifier will, to a large extent, be used by fans to judge Coach Kwasi Appiah who has been given temporary responsibility for the team.
But he told Joy Sports he is not under any pressure because he is not entirely new on the job.
He said focusing on what people think about him and his capabilities will only be an unnecessary counterproductive detraction.
Joy Sports will bring listeners live commentary and updates for the Ghana-Sudan game from Kumasi beginning with tomorrow’s Joy Sports Link.
