Zain Ghana has commissioned two boreholes to serve two charity homes and their surrounding communities in the Upper East Region.
The borehole, each of which has been sited in the Talensi Nabdan District and the Bolga Municipality, were constructed for the Widows and Orphans Ministry and God’s Love Ministry through Zain's Touching Lives CSR initiative.
The installation of the boreholes relieve the local residents of a daily search for potable water in ponds and other unsuitable sources.
It would also reduce health-related issues associated with drinking contaminated water.
Mr. Benjamin Ato Afful, speaking on behalf of the manager of Corporate Communications and External Affairs, said “Zain is always looking for an opportunity to transform the lives of people in our host communities. We care about the well being of Ghanaians; as such we see the challenges faced by the people as an opportunity for us to touch their lives."
"It is with this passion that we responded to the call by providing these homes with a source of portable water which stands to benefit several people in the surrounding communities," he added.
The head of Widows and Orphans Ministry, Mrs. Betty Ayagba, remarked “today marks the end of our years of struggle in the search of a basic need, water. Running this institution without a regular source of water was a disincentive in our bid to render selfless services to support the less fortunate in society."
Her views were shared by Madam Mary Magdalene, proprietress of God’s Love Ministry, home to hundreds of homeless children.
She said “We made several efforts in the hope that organizations will come to our aid without success, that’s how come we are overly joyous at this gesture from Zain."
