Defending Commonwealth long jump gold champion, Ghana's Ignatius Gaisah yesterday secured his place in the final of the competition after leaping 7.88 in the qualification round.
Gaisah's best of three leaps was the 7.88 not too far from the best jump in the qualifiers, 7.95 in the name of England's Christopher Tomlinson with Australia's Christopher Noffke jumping 7.89 to also qualify for the final.
Judging by the trend, the defending champion who is making a bold return to top level competition after almost two years injury layoff, could be on his way to picking another medal.
Light weight fighter, Benjamin Lamptey lost his one-eighth elimination bout 4-1 to his Wales opponent Josh Taylor.
Today, more Ghanaian boxers go into action at the one-eighth stage in the different weight categories. Ahmed Saraku will face Wale's Jermaine Asare in the light' heavy weight division just as Jessie Lartey also faces mother Welsh Sean McGoldrick in the bantam weight division. Heavy weight fighter Yekeni Awusone faces Semisi Tono of Tonga.
Duke Micah has already reached the quarter-finals and will today face Waseem. Muhammed of Pakistan in the light flyweight division for a place in the semi finals.
