Insurance firm, Glico Group, have presented an insurance cover worth GHC 500,000 to the senior national team, the Black Stars, as they look set to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Stars travel to play Mauritius on Sunday in a crucial AFCON qualifier with a win to secure them a place at next year’s tournament in Gabon.
In her address, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Glico, Nana Efua Rockson, who presented the cheque on behalf of management also announced an additional cash donation of GH20,000 towards the team’s preparation for AFCON 2017.
She also noted that the team will receive GH 7,500 each if they win their last two qualifiers against Mauritius and Rwanda.
“We decided to present the team with this insurance cover because we want to see the team win all of their qualifiers and AFCON as a whole,” Nana Efua said.
The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara on behalf of the management of of the Black Stars thanked Glico for their continuous support to all their various national teams.
He noted that the insurance cover will motivate the team to give off their best knowing they are covered and assured Glico of a victory come Sunday against the Mairitius.
The General Secretary of the GFA, Isaac Addo who received the cheque said he would move to formalize an agreement between both the GFA and Glico so as to make the latter the insurance sponsors of the Black Stars.
