Upper West regional Minister, Amin Amidu Sulemani has expressed concern about the falling standards of education in the Region.
He stated that they have been a series of measures put in place to address it but they seem not to be yielding results as progressive year's performance continue to decline.
He attributed the social moral fibre of the people which seemed to be fast deteriorating especially among the youth.
Mr Sulemani made the statement in a speech read on his behalf at the 2nd congregation of the Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education in Wa.
For some time now, education in the Upper West Region has taken a nosedive, especially at the basic school level. The average performance of the region in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for the past 4 years has been hovering around 36%.
Mr Sulemani challenged the graduands to go out and checks the status quo and improve the situation.
He announced that Upper West Regional Coordinating Council will soon organise stakeholders’ forum to brainstorm on measures that will assist to reverse the declining standards of education in the region.
The principal of the Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College, Asma-u Ismail urged the graduands to give up their best to the communities that they will be posted to serve. She said the college is on the verge of adding two new programmes to the already three programmes currently run by the College.
The College is collaborating with McCoy and Tumu Colleges of Education and a Canadian university to support the introduction of new programmes and the running of higher degrees for tutors up to the Ph.D. level.

Chairman of the governing council of the College, Maulvi Nur Mohammed Bin Salih advised the graduands to do their best and maintain the covenant with the college and be its worthy ambassadors.

Some 831 graduands comprising five batches were awarded diplomas in basic education certificates with Nafisatu Suleman topping the list by attaining first class.
