The Tuesday 19th October 2010 edition of “Sports Night” on Joy Sports on Multi TV was thrilling with in-depth discussion on the upcoming MTN FA Cup which kicks off in December 2010.
Kurt E.S. Okraku, a member of the FA Cup committee together with Prosper Harisson, Legal Advisor at MTN were guests on the show with regular host, Ernest Koranteng.
Kurt Okraku, who is also Administrative Manager of the Ghana League Clubs Association, spoke about the history of the FA Cup, explaining the important role the competition has played in the development of football in the country. He emphasized that, “the football calendar cannot be full without the FA Cup.
The FA Cup is the only competition that takes care of the interests of all the three top tiers of Ghana Football; the Premier League, Division One and Two. Hopefully, Division Three will be included in the coming season.”
The football administrator added that the revival of the competition is an opportunity to grow the game and make it attractive. He reiterated that Ghana Football Association is working hard to find supporting sponsors to give the necessary backing in order to have a successful tournament.
Prosper Harisson, who represented title sponsor MTN, threw more light on MTN’s interest in sponsoring the FA Cup. According to him, this venture falls in line with the company's desire to promote the “Can Do” spirit in Ghanaians by helping to grow football talents through the three-year sponsorship deal with the FA. “The sponsorship deal goes beyond just the package that was announced at the official presentation to the GFA.
After every game, the best player will be awarded ‘man of the match’”. He said a cheque for four hundred and fifty thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢450,000) and the fifty thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢50,000) worth of MTN products was on 50 percent of the package for this season.
Ace sports writer, Ken Bediako and Maxwell Konadu, coach of Wa All Stars, joined the discussion on phone maintaining that the FA Cup was worth bringing back into the football calendar.
