The Power Queens Club of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of the Accra East Region has presented various items to the inmates of Female Ward One of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. The Female Ward One was adopted by the club about six years ago and over the years, the Club has donated various items to the hospital, including a polytank. The donation, which included food items and toiletries formed part of activities marking the week-long programme of the annual celebration of the club. Grace Garshong, President of the Club and the Public Relations Officer of the Accra east Region said members of the club were inspired by their belief that the unfortunate circumstances of the inmates of the mental hospital imposes a responsibility on them to help. She said members of the Club are committed to supporting the inmates in diverse ways to ensure that the workers at the hospital have some of their burdens lightened. Mrs. Garshong called on the general public to try and help the sick, destitute and less privileged in society so as to bring hope to them. She said those who have found themselves at the country’s mental hospitals are not getting the best of life due to the unpleasant situation that exists and noted that it has not been the wish of the inmates to be at such places. The President mentioned that there are organizations and philanthropists who can do better for the inmates and thereby called on them to think of how best they can improve the conditions of the inmates. She was of the view that when the government passes the Mental Health Bill conditions at the Psychiatric hospitals will improve. Edith Bonney, Senior Nursing Officer in-charge of the Ward, who received the items on behalf of the hospital thanked members of the Club for their continuous support given to the inmates over the past years. She noted that anytime the Club shows up they are happy because of what they have been doing to support the upkeep of the inmates. Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
