The coach of the national under-20 football side, Orlando Wellington, says his charges are ready to take on the young Squirrels of Benin in Saturdays final African youth cup qualifier.
Coach Wellington who was speaking on Asempa FM in Accra said, the boys are physically and spiritually prepared to face their counterparts in the final qualifying game.
Ghana beat Benin by two goals to nil in Cotonou a fortnight ago and the team is feverishly preparing to host their West African neighbours in Accra on Saturday.
Coach Wellington stressed his sides resolve to kill off the opponents saying, “we know what is at stake, they are aware of what is going on, and we are ready for the battle.”
He believes he has a perfect blend between the local and foreign players and assures Ghanaians there would not be any problems between the boys in camp that will jeopardize their chances of winning the game. He however pointed out that the performance of the local boys will determine whether the foreign based players will start the game.
He refused to name his starting eleven but said he will ensure that the Satellites play good football and win the game convincingly.
“I am going to combine physical play, tactical play, discipline and commitment” he said.
Coach Wellington said he will lead Ghana to victory even though the Benin team does better away from home as they did against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou.
On the issue of bonuses, he said “as a coach, I don’t want to comment on money matters before a match. If you do that you are drawing the minds of the players psychologically’.
He was certain, however, that the boys know what is at stake for their career and would work to ensure that Ghana comes out victorious in the game on Saturday.
Ghana is the defending champion of both the African Youth Cup and the World Youth Cup.
