Ghana's Ambassador to Ireland resident in the United Kingdom, His Excellency Ambassador Prof. Kwaku Danso-Boafo presented his credentials to the President of Ireland, Her Excellency Mary McAleese, on Wednesday 20th Oct 2010 in Dublin.
Ambassador Danso-Boafo, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Danso-Boafo and Mr. Ramses Cleland, Minister in charge of Political and Economic Affairs at the High Commission in London, was received by Her Excellency Mary McAleese upon arrival at Áras an Uachtaráin, the Presidential Palace. Three other Envoys respectively from The Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Rwanda were also scheduled to present their credentials on the same day.
Present at the credentials ceremony at the Presidential Palace were the Irish Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Dick Roche, T.D, the Secretary-General to the President, Mr. Adrian O'Neill and the Deputy Secretary-General at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brendan Rogers.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Danso-Boafo extended greetings from the President of Ghana, His Excellency Prof. Evans Atta-Mills, his Government and the entire people of Ghana. He also acknowledged the strong relationship between Ghana and Ireland and pledged Ghana's commitment to further strengthen this relationship.
In her response, President McAleese acknowledged the enduring partnership between Ghana and Ireland and promised to do all she can to strengthen the relations even further. She pledged her country’s support for Ghana’s further development. President McAleese extended warm greetings to His Excellency Prof. Atta Mills, the Government and people of Ghana.
The Ambassador, after presenting his credentials held a closed door meeting with the Irish President.
The colourful and impressive ceremony ended with the playing of the Ghana national anthem and inspection of the Guard of Honour.
Soon after the ceremony, Ambassador Danso-Boafo held several bilateral meetings with Irish Government Officials and subsequently hosted a reception for members of the diplomatic corps, heads of government institutions, members of the Ghanaian community and some business leaders in Dublin.
Whilst in Dublin the Ambassador will hold a special forum for the Ghanaian community in Ireland on Thursday, 21st October at the Park Plaza Hotel in Tyrrelstown. On Friday 22nd October, 2010 he will host the Ghana-Ireland Business meeting at the Conrad Hotel in Dublin.
