The Vatican has conferred on former President John Agyekum Kufuor the highest ecclesiastical honour of the Knight Commanderhood of the Order of Pope Pius IX.
The Vatican also conferred on Mrs. Theresa Kufuor the award of Papal Dame of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great.
The award’s are in recognition of the former president and his wife’s contribution towards the development of the Catholic Church and to the nation.
Presenting the honour, the immediate past archbishop of the Kumasi Metropolis, Emeritus Peter Sarpong noted amongst others the re-introduction of religious and moral education into school curricula and the prevention of a gay conference in Ghana some while he was president as major contributions he made to raise the moral standard of the people in Ghana.
Present at the ceremony were New Patriotic Party flag-bearer Nana Akufo-Addo; former Defence Minister Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor and NPP General Secretary, Sir John.
