The Police Administration has donated GH¢ 500 to Lance Corporal Samuel Agbaglo of the Rapid Deployment Force Unit in Sunyani to take care of his medical bills and other expenses after a car accident. He is currently on admission at the Saint John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Brong-Ahafo Region. The amount was presented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, Director General Welfare of the Ghana Police Service, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police at the weekend. DCOP Gyeabour, who was accompanied by Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, ACP Alex Quainoo, Superintendent Andrews Boadu Ekumah, Commander of the Rapid Deployment Force Unit and other police personnel, wished Lance Corporal Agbaglo a speedy recovery. He said the accident would not deter the Police from discharging their obligations and were resolved to work harder. Briefing newsmen before the presentation, Supt. Ekumah said on August 29 this year, Lance Corporal Agbaglo, as part of his duty, joined a Yutong bus of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) with registration number GS-3679-09 as escort from Sunyani to Accra. On reaching Mankranso in the Ashanti Region the bus crashed into a tractor parked in a sharp curve on a portion of the road, without reflectors. The victim was initially rushed to Bechem Hospital and was later referred to St. John of God Hospital due to the severity of injuries he sustained, particularly his right leg, which is now amputated. Supt. Ekumah said the driver of the bus and other passengers received minor injuries whilst one passenger later died in the hospital. Presenting the money to the victim, DCOP Gyeabour said the Police Administration was sorely concerned about the plight of the victim and asked him to be encouraged by this. "The Police administration is solidly behind you and to see to your welfare. We have come to wish you speedy recovery and have asked the hospital authorities not to hesitate to inform us if the need arises for you to be sent elsewhere for further treatment," he said. ACP Quainoo advised the victim to concentrate on his quick recovery and should avoid thinking too much about the horrible experience. He said the police administration would take certain things into consideration and still keep him in the service after his recovery. "These things do happen and it's rather unfortunate it happened to you because it could have happened to any one of us," he said. Dr Samuel Afatsao, an Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Hospital, said the victim was very lucky as he was rushed to the hospital on time "and we also responded swiftly". He said the policeman had received eight pints of blood out of the required 10 pints for every human being, "as he lost a lot of blood on the day of the accident". "He is responding to treatment and is still going through psychological orientation and counseling. I have spoken to him and told him not to worry but look ahead in life. We will put him in artificial limbs. We have some assembled here," the doctor added. Lance Corporal Agbaglo thanked the police administration for the gesture. Source: GNA
