The Editor of the Africa Watch Magazine is in contempt of Parliament. Steve Malorey will be hauled before the Privileges Committee of Parliament for publishing a survey his magazine claimed to have conducted on the performance of the Members of Parliament. Details of the survey which were published in the October edition of magazine, graded the President and his ministers of state as well as Members of Parliament. The MPs, 24 of whom were graded F appear worst hit by the survey and are up in arms against the owners of the magazine. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Mr. Alban Sumana Bagbin, both scored an A, higher than that of the Speaker of Parliament, Joyce Banford Addo who scored a B+. Doe Adjaho, Deputy Speaker of Parliament also scored an A-. Moses Asaga MP for Nabdam was rated B+, with the current majority leader Cletus Avoka being graded B+. Hon Timothy Attaboadey MP for Builsa North was deemed to have failed with a complete F. Manhyia MP, Mathew Opoku Prempeh scored a B+ whilst the deputy Majority Leader Rashid Pelpuo scored a B. Sheik IC Quaye also scored a D. Members of Parliament are unimpressed with the rankings and did not spare the opportunity to register their displeasure when the issue was raised on the floor of Parliament, Tuesday. The House had earlier on released a statement questioning the format of the survey and the indicators used in measuring the performance of the MPs, but on Tuesday the House decided to take it a step further. It has resolved to take punitive measures against the editor of the magazine. The Speaker of Parliament, Joyce Banford Addo in referring the issue to the Privileges Committee said the conduct of the magazine was unconstitutional and sought to put the House into disrepute. She said the sanctity of Parliament must at all times be safeguarded and hopes the committee will bring the editor of the magazine to book. Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
