Second Lady, Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has urged Ghanaians to support government efforts to ensure environmental cleanliness.
She says it was crucial for everyone to observe strict environmental cleanliness in order to check the spread of Cholera and other diseases.
Speaking at the commissioning of an oil palm processing plant at Ankwandi in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region, Thursday, she said the facility would help the women to process oil palm for the market with ease.
The project was funded by the Second Lady.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur was hopeful the facility will help the palm oil producers to focus on demand-driven areas in order to achieve the intended impact of profitable sales.
She said this would make processing of palm oil more attractive to the women in the area and create more employment.
The Second Lady also urged members of the palm oil processing association in the Ankwandi area to unite in order to benefit fully from the facility.
She used the occasion to thank the queen mothers for encouraging women to establish their own enterprises.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur lauded the GRATIS Foundation, for actively supporting the palm oil industry in the area.
GRATIS Foundation is a leader in the designing, manufacturing and selling of precision agro, food processing and sanitation equipment. Their equipment includes palm oil processing, fruit juice extractors, palm oil extractors, cassava graters, feed mixers and many other food processing machines.
Nana Oye II, Akuapim Krontihemaa, the facilitator of the project thanked the Second Lady for her kind gesture and was hopeful that the project would help improve the living conditions of the people.
She said the women’s group would build on what have been provided and ensure its sustainability.
She gave the assurance that the Association would ensure that its members produced high-quality palm oil under the highest hygienic conditions without any additives or substances of adulteration.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North, Mr. George Opare Addo, thanked the Second Lady for donating the equipment to the group.
