President Mahama has charged the education ministry to begin gathering data on every research conducted by graduates at institutions of higher learning across the country.
He believes this will help provide comprehensive information on how to solve the many challenges facing the country.
President Mahama disclosed this when he addressed the faculty heads and students at the first Congregation of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in the Brong Ahafo capital town, Sunyani.
There have been public concerns about why volumes of information researched by students are left untapped on shelves of universities.
Whiles many people rebuked the government for being tardy in the manner it addresses the many challenges facing the country, others slam it for its insensitivity.
But President Mahama believed the government is putting the necessary measures in place to ensure that the nation benefits from its graduates.
He disclosed “The government intends to collate data on every research in every discipline in the country.”
According to him, he would want the students and faculty members of the university to be part of the movement to find a solution to the energy problem of the nation adding “I am therefore pleased to hear in the Vice-Chancellor’s report that you have taken an early lead in this sector.”
President Mahama said, “This year in the state of the nation’s address, I announced a 200 thousand rooftop solar project currently being implemented by the PURC and the Energy Commission.”
He believes when the project is successful, it will reinforce the success of the “national electrification programme and the rural electrification programme.”
He charged the university to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Education, and the Energy Ministry to ensure that the nation benefits from its students.
