A Former National President of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) has disputed figures by the National Service Secretariat (NSS) as number of service personnel posted for 2016/2017.
Ekow Vincent Assafuah says the over 70,000 figure quoted by the NSS cannot be accurate.
Ekow Vincent is alleging that the figure has been bloated deliberately to support the ruling National Democratic Congress’ political campaign.
He based his claims on his experience as a former President of NASPA, insisting in the absence of evidence, the figures cannot be realistic.
He challenged the NSS secretariat to provide further evidence to justify the figure put out.
Vincent Assafuah was contributing to a morning show discussion on Light TV, Tuesday.
The NSS released postings for the 2016/ 2017 service year. According to the NSS, over 70,407 national service personnel have so far been posted to various regions.
A statement signed by the Acting Executive Director, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte said the service personnel who have been deployed to both private and public sectors of the economy are Ghanaian graduates from 137 tertiary institutions across the country and those who have completed their studies abroad.
The statement explained that the early release of the postings is to afford prospective service personnel sufficient time to prepare before they take up their postings in September, 2016.
