Fifa Ballon d’Or nominee Asamoah Gyan says he has garnered a decent record to win this year’s African Footballer of the Year award.
Gyan powered Ghana to the final of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations with three goals and lost 1-0 to Egypt in Angola.
He replicated his striking form by netting three times in Ghana’s quarter-final feat at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
The 24-year-old rattled in 13 goals for French Ligue 1 side Rennes before moving to English side Sunderland as a record signing.
Gyan hopes to become the fourth Ghanaian after Abedi Pele, Abdul Razk and Ibrahim Sunday to win the African player gong.
“I think this year I have been able to prove myself-African Cup, club side and everything-but I’m not Caf but I think I did my best and they are going to decide now so I’m okay with whatever happens,” Gyan said in an interview with a local radio station.
Caf is yet to release a list of nominees for this year’s African Footballer of the Year Award.
