Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach Ebo Mends has resigned just a day after Accra Hearts of Oak inflicted a third league defeat on the Porcupine warriors, KickOffGhana.com can exclusively reveal.
Mends tendered in his resignation after lengthy meetings on Sunday and Monday afternoon but it is clear he was pushed out.
Mends’ future had become untenable in the eyes of many Kotoko fans and amongst senior board members who felt from day one that he was not the right man for the club.
And the defeat to Hearts of Oak which came on the back of another defeat to local rivals King Faisal proved too much for them.
But on Sunday in the immediate aftermath of the defeat he sounded confident he will hang on to his job.
“My job is not under threat,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “There are three things in the game of football; you win, draw or lose. It is unfortunate that we have lost on two occasions at home.
“That does not mean I have to lose my job. The league is still ongoing. We are all down. Nobody is happy. We will prepare and face our next game no matter what”
He will not get that chance now after being forced to step down.
