Ghana’s leading telecommunications service provider, MTN Ghana continues to exhibit service excellence in the National Communications Authority Quality of Service test.
In the latest Quality of Service test conducted in the Western, Volta, Eastern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions monitoring cellular voice & data service in March and April 2016, MTN Ghana exceled at the parameters measured.
The NCA monitored the Call Setup Time, which is the period of time elapsing from the sending of a complete destination address; that is to say, the period between pressing the dial button on your phone and when a call is established.
NCA guidelines expect that 95 per cent of all calls would connect in less than ten seconds. MTN excelled in this category as well as three other categories, namely, Stand-alone Dedicated Control Channel (SDCCH) Congestion Rate, Call congestion rate and Voice Call Audio Quality.
For Data QoS, the NCA monitored the 3G license obligation which enjoins MTN to cover and maintain coverage in all Metropolitan, Municipal and districts capitals.
The Data monitoring also comprised the following Quality of Service indicators and their respective thresholds for compliance - Data Access Time (the response time of accessing the data service when requested), Data Access Success Rate (the probability of success in connecting to a public server), Data Drop Rate (the probability of drop in connection to public server without end user’s intervention), Throughput (the speed at which information is accessed).
NCA monitors compliance with license conditions in real time and sanctions companies that do not meet these rigorous requirements. MTN Ghana has passed required thresholds in all the regions measured.
Speaking on the NCA’s Quality of Service monitoring results, the Chief Technical Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr. Mohammed Rufai, said NCA’s Quality of Service report shows MTN’s commitment to focus on enhancing our customers’ experience across the country. With the launch of our 4G LTE services, we are further investing $18 million USD into 4G LTE infrastructural development.
“We have a robust network to support the needs of customers. MTN Ghana will continue to make significant investments in our network to continue to provide enhance coverage and customer experience,” he added.
MTN has also since January 2014 to date, passed all Quality of Service (QoS) monitoring tests on voice conducted by the National Communications Authority (NCA) in all ten regions of Ghana.
In line with its vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world, MTN has been consistent with innovations in infrastructure deployment. MTN launched its 4G LTE services on 21st June in all 10 regions of Ghana after it acquired the 4G LTE 800MHz spectrum license in December 2015.
The launch of the 4G LTE technology by MTN makes it the first 4G LTE mobile telecommunications operator in Ghana. MTN customers can access 4G LTE on their mobile phones as well as mifi devices, dongles and many more. Since the acquisition of the license, MTN has deployed over 400 sites in all ten regions and some district capitals confirming that it was investing a total of$18 million.
