The last edition of the 2016 Nestle Nido Nutrition Campaign award has been won by Bernice Edifor a petty trader who beat her keen contestants to win GH¢500,00 scholarship package for her son.
She and her son, a Primary 2 pupil of Kaa-Jarno Presby in Osu, Master Leone Addo were presented with a dummy check shortly after the program.
The campaign saw a huge participation by the parents and children of Osu Home School, Epiphany Presbyterian Basic School and South LA 2 and3 Tenashie Basic Schools all in the La Dade Kotopon municipality of the Great Accra Region.
As part of the program, a drama on how to provide a well-balanced diet for children was organized to deepen the understanding of parents and caregivers.
The release of the money to her will be supervised by the municipal education directorate is expected to use to pay the boy’s fees and other educational needs.
Madam Edifor who described her victory as dream comes true beat her contests after correctly answering all the questions posed to her on balance diet for children at various stages of the program .
The visibly elated mother of four praised the management of the company. She remarked that the package will help shape her child's future.
Madam Edifor, did not hide her continuous participation in the programs organized by the company.
The campaign which forms the global nutrition giant's Health, Nutrition and Wellness agenda was dubbed: Nestle Education Campaign, under the Theme: Nido Your Love Their Future. It provides mothers and caregivers nutrition education for the optimal growth of their children.
The program is being run in selected schools nationwide in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service. About 23 basic schools across the country have been benefiting from the program since its inception some three years ago.
Reading a speech on behalf of the Managing Director of the company Mrs. Freda Y. Duplan, Mr Aaron Fenu the Communications Manager said since 2015 the Nestlé Nido Nutrition Education campaign has reached 11,338 mothers in the Greater Accra, Northern, Western, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions.
According to her, Nestlé has made a global commitment to help reduce the risk of undernutrition through micronutrient fortification and aims to reach 200 billion annual servings of micronutrient-fortified foods and beverages worldwide by the end of this year.
In the Central and West Africa Region, Nestlé provided its consumers with 58 billion daily servings of micronutrient-fortified foods and beverages in 2015.
