The Volta Regional Police Commander has warned all persons engaging in the cultivation of cannabis that they would be apprehended and made to face the law. 

Assistant Commander of Police (ACP), Nana Asamoah Hinneh said it has become imperative for the police to clamp down on persons engaging in this illegal business since the number of cultivators, has increased over the years. 

ACP Hinneh who made this known during an interview with Joy News' Fred Quame Asare said arresting the cannabis cultivators would help cut the supply of the drug to peddlers and consumers.

He disclosed that the Police has already destroyed some farms while lamenting that most of the cannabis farms are located in remote communities and islands on the River Volta where the Police lack logistics to access. 

"You realise that some of the areas, the division within the Volta region, especially a place like Gemeni...there are some island located on the Volta River, and you know that it is difficult for the Police and Navy to get there, so they use those places to cultivate cannabis," he said

According to him, the Peki mountain area where the Police recently destroyed over 20 acres of cannabis farm is fast becoming an alarming area of concern. 

"It is like people have taken it to be an economic venture, so as we destroy this farms the alternative is what we engage them in for them to be able to survive in life so they do away with the cannabis cultivation."

He, however, encouraged residents to be forthcoming with information to help weed out these persons engaged in the cannabis business.
