The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has promised fairness to all applicants in the ongoing police recruitment exercise.
John Kudalor said structures have been put in place to ensure that this year’s exercise is devoid of the challenges which have characterised previous exercises.
“We are now in the first phase of the second stage [where] we have to see those who applied to see if they are physically fit and academically fit as they claimed,” he said.
The IGP disclosed this to Joynews when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief Imam Sheik Nuhu Shaributu to seek his support for a peaceful election.
Police recruitment exercises in the country have been fraught with reeking pungent smell of irregularities.
Some civilians collaborating with some police officers have been swindling Ghanaians thousands of cedis with the promise of getting them into the police force.
A former Interior Minister, Mark Wayongo has disclosed on the Joy FM’s Super Morning Show in 2015 that he got wind of the scam in that year when his constituents phoned him to get them recruited.
A Headmaster, Elias Bida in Keta in the Volta Region was arrested for swindling residents of Keta to the tune of Ȼ150,000 each from applicants.
Speaking to Joynews’ Favour Nunoo, the IGP said the police administration has been purged of that practice due to some internal arrangements.
He disclosed on applicants have been notified to appear at the various police recruiting centers on Monday, July 18 to go through a fitness exercise, noting, it was done not to “inconvenience them financially”.
Touching on his visit, he told Joynews the Chief Imam plays a critical role when it comes to the mobilization of the Muslim community, hence his visit.
He explained he wants the Chief Imam to channel the exuberance of the youth into a successful election and not to stir violence in the country.
