The Black Stars of Ghana failed to exact revenge against a plucky Saudi Arabia side after the international friendly ended barren.
The Green Falcons embarrassed a Claude- LeRoy led Black Stars in 2007 with a resounding 5-0 score-line in an international friendly and the Stars had revenge on their minds.
But on the day, a not too convincing performance and tales of near misses meant the Arabians still have the bragging rights over Ghana intact.
The Arabians were better in the first half, dominated play but lacked ideas in front of goal.
Dede Ayew’s superb strike from near post was well parried by the Saudi goal keeper bringing the first half to an end.
The Stars lifted their game in the second half with Striker Asamoah Gyan combining well with Dede Ayew but a tactful Saudi defence proved equal to Gyan’s menacing threats.
The Sunderland attacker had perhaps the best opportunity to put the Stars ahead but his feeble header to an Inkoom cross created no problems at all to the Saudi goalie.
A superb tackle by a Saudi defender robbed Gyan of an opener. The in-form striker meandered his way past two defenders and had only the goal keeper to beat. But a neat and timely tackle from behind kept the Saudi’s in the game.
Inkoom from close range and on his weaker left foot blasted a shot from the six yard box which went just wide.
Goalless it ended, leaving care taker coach, Akwasi Appiah with no goal to show for the two matches he had been in charge.
