The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed indictment charges against its Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira, Nana Amoakoh, by the US as baseless.
The New York County District Attorney's Office has charged the NPP MP, Nana Amoakoh for stealing one million dollars belonging to a Brooklyn based limousine company he worked for.
He has been declared wanted in the US.
Speaking to Joy News, the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Peter Mac Manu, said the charges against their MP cannot be true.
He assured the indicted MP of the party's support and asked him to pay little attention to what he called mere allegations against him.
“We are not going to bother ourselves with unsubstantiated allegations. These are baseless allegations and Hon. Nana Amoakoh has vehemently denied it. We the NPP would not subscribe to this kind of baseless allegations,” he said.
Mr Manu insisted that the MP would never spend such whooping sum of money as being alleged on his campaign because the constituency is a stronghold of the NPP.
“Nana Amoakoh can never and I know he did not spend an amount of one million dollars in his elections in Upper Denkyira. This is a constituency which has been the seat of the NPP since 1996.”
The NPP Chairman noted that the image of the party is not in anyway affected by the current situation coupled with Eric Amoateng’s drug charges in the US.
