Sacked President of the Korle Bu Senior Staff Association has filed a contempt case against the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Mr Charles Offei Palm does not understand why the Hospital should proceed to sack him when he is in court challenging his interdiction by the same hospital.

The President of the Korle Bu Staff Association was interdicted for breaching the hospital's media policy by speaking to radio stations and allegedly making offensive comments against the management of the hospital.

While challenging his interdiction, the hospital decided to terminate his contract completely.

A letter signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Gilbert Buckle read: "following your interdiction and non-appearance for disciplinary hearing, the Disciplinary Committee has proceeded in your absence and found you guilty of the offences leveled against you as per your interdiction letter. Upon the recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee, your appointment with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is terminated with effect from 6th April, 2016.”

He was then instructed to “handover any property of the hospital in his possession to his immediate supervisor".

This has angered Mr Offei Palm. On Tuesday, he filed a contempt suit at the Human Rights court where is challenging his interdiction.

He told Joy News the hospital erred in law by first interdicting him and has now shown gross disrespect to the court by dismissing him.

"Why do you proceed to terminate my appointment when I am challenging my interdiction?"  he asked.

He said the Association which he still represents as president has also described his dismissal as "illegal."

According to him, he has tried several avenues to amicably solve the impasse but to no avail. He said he has no choice than to proceed to court to fight for his right.

Charles Offei Palm also dismissed assertions he is the reason for the many unrest at the hospital's management.

Korle-bu has been a hotbed for turmoil at the management level with the Senior Staff Association always demanding the dismissal of newly appointed CEOs.

Offei-Palm said he does not take decisions by himself and that any action or decision arrived at, is done in the interest of the association.

He argued if their queries and protestations were dealt with, Korle Bu will not be in the state in which it is now with key installations shutting down and many people dying needless deaths.
