The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has scrapped its Computer Motor Riders and Equipment License Test, described by some people as a monster.
The Ashanti Regional Office has instead instituted a one-day training workshop for motorbike users and equipment operators.
Technical personnel from the police Motor Traffic and Transportation Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA took applicants through a one-day localized training without any exams, Monday.
Officials of the DVLA said since the replacement of the computer test, more motor riders and heavy duty equipment operators have been trooping in to acquire the license.
When you want to ride a motorbike you only come for a one day programme which is a substitute for the written test. Once you do that
"There are three instructors; one from the MTTD, DVLA and another from the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC). Each of them has specific things they are going to teach the people," Regional Accountant, Jamal Ibrahim Badu, explained to Joy News' Erastus Asare Donkor.
He said the NRSC for instance, will take the people through the rudiments of road safety while the DVLA takes them through the various riding and operating mechanism they need to know.
"At the end of the day, the person leaves the premises holistically trained for the purpose of either riding the motorbike or operating the equipment," Mr Badu said.
He explained that to qualify for a riding licence, the applicant is made to identify some road signs as well as take a riding test to prove their competence.
