The Constitution Review Commission is reverting to technology as a way of generating more public interest in the review process. The Commission will employ text messaging to encourage more people to participate in the process. Dubbed the TEXT-IN campaign, a question will be posed daily by the CRC to which members of the public can text their responses to the short code 1992. The Head of Public Relations at the Commission Papa Kow Acquaye said given the large number of people using mobile phones and the relative ease with which they can participate in the important process, there could be no effective way of involving the populace than the texting system. “For example the question of the day will be, ‘Do you want the practice of paying ex gratia to be scrapped or retained?,’ then you can text, ‘yes, no,’ or with your reasons,” he said. The texting will cover the 25 main issues of CRC. The TEXT-IN campaign will be launched tomorrow. To date, the Commission has received over sixty thousand submissions from the public. It is also expected to hold consultations with President Mills and his predecessors, Presidents Kufuor and Rawlings later. Source: Joy News/Ghana
