Hippopotamus at the Wechaw Hippo Sancturay in the Upper West Region are said to have gone wild. It follows their indiscriminate killing by some hunters in the area.
Two of the hippos have been reportedly killed by the hunters in the past two weeks.
Joy FM’s Upper West Regional Correspondent Rafik Salam reports foreign and local tourists flock to the village on a daily basis to catch a glimpse of the massive animal but authorities are now worried they may lose revenue as a result of the situation.
The District Chief Executive for Wa West, Seidu Tungbani, said the animals had, in a sort of protest, attacked travelers and killed some of them.
He was however concerned that the population of hippos will dwindle if the situation is not reversed.
