Real Madrid beat Sevilla 3-2 as Dani Carvajal scored a stunning extra-time goal, following on from Sergio Ramo’s last-gasp equaliser at the end of regulation time, to clinch the European Super Cup.
Jorge Sampaoli’s side looked set to lift the first piece of silverware of the continental season following goals from Franco Vazquez and Yevhen Konoplyanka, but Ramos found the net in the 94th minute to force extra-time.
Timothee Kolodziejczak was shown a second yellow card in extra-time to reduce Sevilla to 10 men, giving Real Madrid the advantage. It eventually told as Carvajal scored a late winner to win the match before it went to a penalty shootout.
