With seven games to end the Ghana Premier League, the referees association are promising improved officiating in league matches after coming under a barrage of attacks from club administrators and managers.
Referees took center stage in last weekend round of games with Liberty coach, George Lamptey, Aduana's Cioaba Aristica and Dreams administrative manager, Ameenu Shadow complaining bitterly about what they describe poor officiating geared at manipulating results.
The administrative manager of Dreams went as far as describing referee Nathan Anaafo a murderer following a 'dubious' penalty he awarded Kotoko that won the Porcupine Warriors all three points against his side,
Before that, Medeama had also complained about officiating with deputy communications manager of the Tarkwa-based club, likening the performance of some referees to 'armed robbery'.
And with confidence low heading into the final seven games of the season which will ultimately decide the winner and the relegated three, Retired FIFA and CAF referee Joseph Wellington who is the link between the referees committee and referees association has told JOY SPORTS of assuring improvement.
"We don't appoint or choose referees for games. We look at the magnitude of every game before we appoint referees. We have the normal game, high level game, minimal etc so we look at these levels before we appoint referees."
"The complaints which have been made are being looked at critically. The chairman of the committee Eddy Doku always calls the referees to advise them on what's at stake because we have gotten to a stage where we need to look at how best this league can end successfully."
