The Vice President of the Ghana Football Association and Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee Fred Pappoe believes Asamoah Gyan is the best candidate for the African footballer of the year award.
The CAF awards which is scheduled to take place in Cairo this evening has Chelsea and Ivorian ace Didier Drogba ,Inter Milan and Camerounian Samuel Eto’o and Sunderland and Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan vying for the African player of the year award.
According to Mr. Pappoe, the Ghanaian international has had a very successful career within the past two years and his performance compared to the other candidates for the award has been phenomenal and exceptional.
He added that, with Asamoah’s performance at the 2010 Nations cup in Angola, the World Cup in South Africa and his performance last season at Renne in France and now in Sunderland where he is making great impact, there is no reason why he should not be given the award.
Mr Pappoe argued that, when the three players a put side by side in terms of their out put in the Cup of Nations, the World Cup and their respective clubs, Asamoah stands tall.
