More than 1,000 children, most of them needy from the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality, celebrated Boxing Day in grand style when they were feted by Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the 2008 presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP).
The excited children, dressed in their best outifts, were served food and drinks and danced to good music at the Coconut Grove Hotel at Elmina.
They took home exercise books and pens in addition to other presents given to them by a Santa Claus who was present to add more excitement to the day.
The Christmas party is organized and sponsored annually by the Coconut Grove Hotel for children in the municipality.
Dr. Nduom, who was accompanied by his wife Yvonne, said it was his dream that children from the area excelled in their studies and therefore together with his collaborating partners, they would continue to assist brilliant but needy children to attain the highest level of education.
He appealed to the children to study hard, dream big of becoming prominent people and desist from playing truant because such negative attitudes could jeopardize their future.
Dr Nduom said it was his wish that the municipality would produce great men and women who would in future take key positions in the helm of affairs of the country.
Dr. Nduom said there were plans to build a library for children in the area and that the Coconut Grove Hotel and the First National Bank among other companies would be the financiers.
Also, a scholarship scheme to assist brilliant pupils from primary to the university level would start next year.
Already, Dr. Nduom sponsors some needy students annually with bursaries and stationery.
He said all these efforts were to ensure that opportunities were created for the children to enable them achieve the best in life in order for them to also assist others in future.
