The Peoples National Convention may not forge the unity it needs ahead of the 2012 elections as fresh trouble seems to be brewing in the party.
A founding member Basili Wasai has clashed with executives over his attempt to set up an interim management committee to run the affairs of the party.
He says he and other well-meaning members have constituted the IMC for a good cause.
He said Dr Edward Mahama who had been flag-bearer of the party for four consecutive elections – 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 – had not been able to chart a clear path for the party, neither the executive.
“So we decided to go all out to make a few changes possible by taking over the management of [the party] and drawing a programme to go to congress and eventually to elect new executive to steer the affairs of the party,” Mr Wasai said.
But the party has issued a statement denouncing the IMC.
General Secretary of the PNC, Bernard Monah said the party was not in any crisis to warrant the formation of any IMC.
He said if anybody in the party disagrees with the leadership of the party, the person must wait until congress to campaign for a new leadership.
