The Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has decided not to field a candidate for the 2012 general elections. The party took the decision after interacting with members in all ten regions about the future of the GCPP.It will however, go to congress later this year to elect national, regional and constituency executives.General Secretary Alhassan Saeed tells Joy News members are in favour of an alliance with another party for the 2012 polls. The GCPP was founded by the late Dan Lartey who vigorously preached a vision of domestication- a vision that was popular in the media and political circles but did not win an election. With the untimely death of Mr. Dan Lartey there are fears the party will soon crumble but the General Secretary disagrees.“He (Dan Lartey) was a man with a pragmatic vision and the vision belongs to the party but his death does not affect the party because we have the men on the ground,” he said.Mr. Saeed also dismissed suggestions the GCPP was dying a slow death because of the passing of founder and sole financier Dan Lartey.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
