Officials of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) have said they will not succumb to the dictates of some selfish politicians who want to field its party members for the 2012 elections.
The GCPP declared its intentions not to contest the 2012 polls as they work to strengthen the party's structures for future elections.
This notwithstanding, the GCPP says it is being coerced by leading members of some political parties to stand on their ticket following the demise of founder, Dan Lartey.
In an interview with Joy News, the party’s General Secretary, Alhasan Saeed said the party will not yield to these politicians. He explained that “our fears are that you cannot call me as general secretary ‘please meet me at Nungua’ and when I get there you give me an envelope and you go and tell me that you want a membership card. So I should sell my party to people!”
He said the party will go to congress in August or September to begin the process of revitalizing the grassroots of the party.
He therefore warned all the political parties to desist from such actions as the party is not prepared to even consider such an option.
