Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Sunday observed that the party was inviolable and using performance as a measuring rod it could trounce all opposition in the next general election. He said rather, intra-party squabbles posed the greatest threat to the NDC walloping the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Election 2012. Mr Asiedu-Nketia was addressing an NDC Volta Regional rally in Ho, to commemorate the second year of President John Evans Atta Mills Administration. "I know the NPP is not capable of removing us (NDC) from power. "But I also know that it is ourselves that are capable of removing ourselves," Mr Asiedu-Nketia stated. He therefore urged members of the NDC to conform to the constitution of the party and resist tendencies that could hold the NDC back. Mr Asiedu-Nketia hinted that primaries would soon be held in "Orphan" constituencies where other parties other than NDC members are members of parliament (MPs) to pick candidates for the 2012 elections. He warned that the party was in no mood for rabble-rousers, who would lose the primaries and then seek to create confusion. Mr Asiedu-Nketia said members who would breakaway to stand as independent candidates would only be accepted back on the stringent condition of them starting from the scratch. He also warned party members against denigrating MPs because the want their places. The NDC General Secretary said MPs might not be visiting their constituencies as often as before because they were needed always in Parliament to push government programmes through, because of the slim majority of the NDC in the House. Dr Kwabena Adjei, NDC National Chairman advised the youth to refrain from seeking to manipulate politicians for money but instead strive to get jobs and go into businesses. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Regional Minister, said the NPP was no match for the NDC in the 2012 Election, saying the infrastructure build-up by the government in areas like education, health and the road sector was astounding. He said the race for the verdict of the people in 2012 had started and that any balloting "today" would see the NPP vanquished. Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development said votes in the Volta Region in the 2008 elections won the elections for the NDC and that the rally was overdue. The rally which was characterised by merry making in the form of drumming, dancing, conviviality and a general upbeat expectation was preceded earlier in the day by a thanksgiving service.
