Vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe says Ghana’s status as Africa’s number one on the latest FIFA Ranking could boost high profile player transfers if maintained.
The Black Stars who are preparing for their February 8 international friendly against Togo claimed the number one spot in Africa ahead of Ivory Coast and Egypt after moving one place up to 15th on the World ranking table.
It is the second time in the country’s football history that the Black Stars have been ranked as Africa’s number one.
Although some people have criticized the FIFA Ranking as being nothing but mathematical, Fred Pappoe says there are still benefits if our position is maintained.
“Definitely the profile of the team will be enhanced by this new ranking, it brings us a feel-good-factor and then boost the esteem and pride of the team,” he said.
Mr Pappoe said the ranking is also a challenge for managers of the team to maintain the position.
