The governing National Democratic Congress has refuted media reports suggesting that Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings will contest in the party’s presidential primaries.
Thursday’s edition of the Daily Guide reports that Mrs Rawlings told the party’s Council of Elders at a meeting last Tuesday that she will contest against President Mills when nominations are opened.
But the NDC Greater Accra regional chairman, Ade Coker has told Joy News the Former First Lady’s presidential ambitions did not come up for discussion at the meeting.
He said what the meeting discussed was how to go about electing parliamentary candidates for orphan constituencies – constituencies where the party has no sitting MPs.
“We looked at other matters such as how to position the party for the 2012 elections,” he added.
Mr Ade Koker said the former First Lady had no difficulty publicly declaring her intention to contest the presidency if nominations are opened.
He cautioned the media to stop embarrassing the former First Lady.
