Nigeria's Federal Government has reaffirmed its resolve to guarantee the success of the amnesty programme in the Niger Delta region even as it threatened to bare its fangs on any ex-militant who displays acts of indiscipline while undergoing training within and outside the country.
It also cautioned trainers to strictly adhere to the terms of their agreement with the Presidential Amnesty Office, warning that while it is totally committed to meeting its obligations to the trainers, it would not hesitate to take appropriate actions against infractions, including shutting down such outfits.
Newly appointed Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Chief Executive Officer of the Amnesty programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, who spoke at a workshop for trainers with the theme, “Towards a Better and Effective Reintegration Process”, said a critical success factor of the amnesty programme depended largely on the success of the reintegration phase, which has already kicked off with the allocation of trainees to centres within and outside the country.
He warned of severe sanctions against trainers who signed contracts with the Amnesty Office and turned round to sublet them to desist from such practices. He threatened to shut training outfits that fell short of standard.
