Members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) branch at the University for Development Studies (UDS) have appealed to the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be bold in taking decisions as the party approaches its parliamentary primaries in April.
The students say no party executive should be permitted to sponsor, collaborate or support any candidate in the primaries which they believe if adhered to will reduce the possibility of defeated candidates running as independent.
The UDS TESCON President Nambe Rahman Sumaila who made the appeal at a press conference in Wa said if parliamentary aspirants lose primaries on fair grounds, they are less likely to be bitter and to do things that will cause problems for the party.
Joy FM Upper West Regional Correspondent Rafiq Salam sat through the press conference and reports the TESCON members were concerned bad experiences in the past may repeat themselves.
They said the party was plagued by apathy, disaffection and rancor after its last parliamentary election.
They believed that affected the NPP’s chances in the 2008 elections.
